ABDOMINAL mASSAGE

Postpartum belly binding is a tradition that has been passed down in many cultures to promote healing and well-being for the postpartum woman. It is one simple way to provide an ancient yet relevant practice for today’s postpartum mothers. It is somewhat misunderstood and thought to be ritualistic or ceremonial, when in reality the traditional cultures that practice it, see belly binding as more of a “common sense” approach to postpartum healing.

Dara comes to the comfort of your own home shortly after you have given birth and provides abdominal massage and belly wrapping. Breastfeeding support is also available.

Benefits of Abdominal Massage

  • Uterus returning to pre-pregnancy size sooner

  • Postpartum hemorrhage prevention

  • Relief from birth 'afterpains', which typically become stronger with each child

  • Reduces postpartum internal organ swelling

  • Encourages internal organs to migrate to their original place

  • Provides posture support during breastfeeding

  • Corrects diastasis recti (separation of abdominal muscles)

  • Gives the mother a sense of security and ” togetherness"

What if I have a Belly Birth?

Abdominal massage and belly wrapping can still be done. The wrapping is gentle around your incision and will support all weight off of your incision when you are standing.

Once I was home from the hospital Dara came to visit and helped make me feel comfortable with a baby in my home by creating a breastfeeding nest, teaching me how to swaddle, and how to use the Moby carrier. I really can’t say enough how much I appreciated having her help me through this experience.
